Join Martin Rowson and Laurie Taylor in conversation to mark the launch of New Humanist magazine’s winter edition.

*In the age of Brexit, Donald Trump and intolerant ideologies, the real world seems to throw up situations more bizarre and grotesque than the fevered minds of our finest satirists could ever produce. Is it time to give up? Does satire ever puncture the powerful, or is it just a way to make ourselves feel better about the state of the world?*

[Martin Rowson](/contributors/274/martin-rowson) is a cartoonist and author whose work frequently appears in the *Guardian*, *Daily Mirror*, *Index on Censorship* and *New Humanist*. His books include *The Dog Allusion*, *The Coalition Book* and the forthcoming *Limerickiad Volume IV* (Smokestack Books).

[Laurie Taylor](/contributors/160/laurie-taylor) presents *Thinking Allowed* on BBC Radio 4 and is president of *New Humanist*‘s publisher, the Rationalist Association. His most recent book is *In Confidence: Talking Frankly about Fame* (Zero Books).
