Our mission

New Humanist is published by the Rationalist Association, which itself emerged out of the august Rationalist Press Association established in 1885.The RA is a registered charity which has two core aims:

1. The mental and moral improvement of the human race by means of the advancement of rationalism and humanism.

2. The advancement of education and in particular the study of rationalism and humanism and the dissemination of knowledge of their principles.

New Humanist (including this site) is the vehicle to realise these aims, in a lively, witty and open-minded way. We are seeking to build the readership and influence of the magazine and the website in order to further these aims. We seek to stand as a counter-balance to dogma of every kind but particualarly religion inspired, and stand against the misue of power and for human beings. We also want to create the best independent cultural/political/philosophical/funny magazine on the stands, something that people like, read and value. That is our mission.
