New Humanist winter 2016 launch party on 29 November

What's the point of satire? New Humanist presents Martin Rowson and Laurie Taylor

Waterstones Piccadilly

Tuesday 29 November, 7pm

Join Martin Rowson and Laurie Taylor in conversation to mark the launch of New Humanist magazine's winter edition.

In the age of Brexit, Donald Trump and intolerant ideologies, the real world seems to throw up situations more bizarre and grotesque than the fevered minds of our finest satirists could ever produce. Is it time to give up? Does satire ever puncture the powerful, or is it just a way to make ourselves feel better about the state of the world?

Martin Rowson is a cartoonist and author whose work frequently appears in the Guardian, Daily Mirror, Index on Censorship and New Humanist. His books include The Dog Allusion, The Coalition Book and the forthcoming Limerickiad Volume IV (Smokestack Books).

Laurie Taylor presents Thinking Allowed on BBC Radio 4 and is president of New Humanist's publisher, the Rationalist Association. His most recent book is In Confidence: Talking Frankly about Fame (Zero Books).

Tickets are £5, redeemable against one of the authors' books, and include a free glass of wine plus a copy of the latest New Humanist. To purchase your ticket please email piccadilly@waterstones.com or telephone 020 7851 2400.
