Charles Freeman is a freelance academic historian with a wide interest in the history of European thought and culture. He leads study tours of medieval and Renaissance Italy and his Holy Bones, Holy Dust, How Relics Shaped the History of Medieval Europe will be published by Yale University Press in April 2011. He is now working on The Reopening of the Western Mind, the fifth in a series of books related to the themes explored in his The Closing of the Western Mind.
