Summer 2016 Issue Launch Party

With Cal Flyn and Reni Eddo-Lodge

Thursday 2nd June, 7pm

Waterstones Piccadilly

Join us as we launch the Summer 2016 edition of New Humanist magazine, with Cal Flyn, who will be talking about her new memoir Thicker than Water (William Collins).

Cal Flyn was holidaying at her childhood home in Scotland when she stumbled upon a disturbing family secret. She discovered that her great-great-great uncle, Angus McMillan, who had been mythologised as a great explorer and pioneer of early Australia, had in fact been the leader of a number of gruesome massacres of indigenous people. Driven to piece together his story and to investigate her own family history, Cal decided to retrace his journey, looking for answers: How could a man lauded for his integrity commit such appalling acts? What have been the long-term consequences of his actions? And has today's generation inherited a responsibility to atone for its ancestors' sins?

Cal will be in conversation with Reni Eddo-Lodge, New Humanist columnist and commentator on race, politics and popular culture.

Tickets are £5 (£3 for members of the Rationalist Association) redeemable against a copy of the book, and include a free glass of wine plus a copy of the latest New Humanist. To purchase your ticket please email piccadilly@waterstones.com or telephone 020 7851 2400.
