Regular readers will be aware that, over the last few years, the Rationalist Association has taken a particular interest in the struggle against religious extremism in Uganda. Our supporters have helped to fund the growth of a network of humanist schools in the country, while we've watched and reported with concern as a bill to criminalise homosexuality has periodically surfaced in the Ugandan parliament on a near-annual basis.

So we were fascinated to learn of a new film, being shown at this week's Sundance Film Festival, which looks at how US evangelical groups are fuelling intolerant Christian extremism in Uganda:

"God Loves Uganda explores the role of the American evangelical movement in Uganda, where American missionaries have been credited with both creating schools and hospitals and promoting dangerous religious bigotry.
The film follows evangelical leaders in America and Uganda along with politicians and missionaries as they attempt the radical task of eliminating 'sexual sin' and converting Ugandans to fundamentalist Christianity."

There's lots more to read on the film's website, and you can watch the trailer below.
